Arnhem cave

No image
The longest and largest cave system in Namibia — a network of tunnels and caverns over 4.5 km in total length and reaching 110 m below ground in some places.

It was formed by the gradual dissolution of limestone and dolomite from underground layers of quartzite and shales. For this reason, there are few limestone structures such as stalactites and stalagmites.

The caves were once used as a source for nitrate rich bat guano at the start of the 20th century.

Animals you may find inside include bats, shrews, spiders and other insects.

Also the 9th longest cave in Africa, it has a large entrance, with a long set of stairs which is the only part of the cave that receives sunlight.
