Fort ikoma

    An old colonial era fort that is located a short distance from the north western border of Serengeti national park, and in the small settlement of Ikoma. It was built by Germans, as both a garrison and an administrative centre, and has since been repaired a few times.

    Today, the building still stands as a tourist attraction and the seed of the town.

    Location of Fort ikomaFort Ikoma is located next to a small settlement a few kilometres north of Fort ikoma gate. It also is near the Ikoma airstrip, and on a narrow strip of land between Serengeti, Grumeti and Ikongoro game reserve.

    How to get there?By air or by vehicle, with the first having the added advantage of seeing the nearby parks from above. You could use the nearby Fort Ikoma airstrip, the much larger Seronera airstrip or others in the area.

    Getting there by vehicle from the nearest cities would require a day long drive though either Serengeti national park, or rural Musoma and Grumeti game reserve; However, there are large passenger buses that ply the route.
