Hippo pools nature trail

A short self-guided nature trail in Nairobi national park, that starts from a picnic area, following the Athi river banks.

The route is patrolled by KWS rangers, and is one of few areas in the park where hiking is allowed without one.

About halfway through is a bridge, onto the other side of the river.

The picnic site has facilities such as toilets, running water and a parking area.

What to do there?Hiking, picnics, game viewing, bird watching with animals to see including hippos, crocodiles, monkey, terrapin and birds.

Location of Hippo pools nature trailThe nature trail is in Nairobi national park's south eastern end, near the Athi river.

How to get thereBy vehicle, as you would need one to get into the park.

It is in quite a remote corner of the park, requiring quite a bit of driving from the park's gates.

JKIA airport and the SGR train station are not far from the park's gates.
