Maasai kopjes

A group of koppie that are located in central Serengeti, a few kilometres south east of the Seronera airstrip. They serve as a refuge for animals and plants alike, from the harsh elements of the plains - which may at times include droughts and fires.

What to do there?Game drives mostly to view lions on the rocks or others along the way such as the hard to find cheetahs and leopards, or the more common zebra, buffalo, hyena, gazelle and hartebeest. It is also one of the locations that may be seen from the air before landing at the Seronera airstrip.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year, as it is close enough to the all seasons road from Naabi hill to Seronera village. Though a good 4x4 may come in handy during the rainy season of March to June.

Location of Maasai kopjesMaasai kopjes is located at the heart of Serengeti, about two kilometres north of the Seronera river - in its early stages. It is also about a 20 minute drive from Seronera village.

How to get there?By air or vehicle. With the first having the option of using the larger Seronera airstrip, followed by a prearranged vehicle to get there. There also are other airstrips in Serengeti that could be used.

The more scenic land based route, has the option of visiting other areas of the park as well, with so many sights to see that it could take as long as a week. It takes about a 45 minutes drive to get there from Naabi hill gate.
