Ngorongoro crater view point 1

    Altitude: 2200 m.a.m.s.l.

    One of the most frequented viewpoints for the Ngorongoro crater, located on its southern crater rim, just a few minutes from the loduare gate. It is also the most easily accessible, even to those going through the park on a transit permit.

    It has a built pavillion that provides a near 180° view of the crater, although most of the time it is filled with tourists trying to get a glimpse or photo of this immense wonder.

    There is a set of toilets at the site.

    What to do there?Photos, meet other tourists, have a bird's eye view of the crater.
    If coming from the loduare gate, then this it's probably the first place where you would get your first glance of the crater. Be warned it is large and beautiful.

    If not going into the crater, then there are other viewpoints that you could visit, most of which have fewer people and better views. Alternatively you could visit the rest of the attractions in the area (See section below after map).

    Best time to visit?Any time of the year, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., although being here during the end of the year would enable you to see the wildebeest migration as well.

    Location of Ngorongoro crater view point 1The viewpoint is near the eastern border of Ngorongoro conservation area, in northern Tanzania. It is also about a 10 minutes drive from the Loduare gate, and 30 minutes from seneto and lemala mini gate. For more information it's location please see the map below.

    How to get there?By vehicle, a short but steep steep climb from loduare gate, using either a private, rental, or tours and travel one - with no preference for 4 x 4’s unless descending into the crater.
