Oogol kopjes

    Altitude: 1700 m.a.m.s.l.

A collection of koppie that are located near Naabi hill and the eastern border of Serengeti national park. It serves as a tourism hotspot, mainly because the rocks are a popular hangout for lions - who can normally be seen basking on top of them during the early or late hours of daylight.

The Kopjes are also one of few places in the vast plains that have tree growth, which is where the predators hide during the afternoon, making them hard to spot to all but experienced guides.

What to do there?Game viewing - mostly lions during the early hours of the day.

Best time to visitAny time of the year, though you may need a good 4 x 4 to do so during the rainy seasons of March to June each year.

Location of Oogol kopjesThe Oogol kopjes are located a short distance west of the border between Serengeti national park and Ngorongoro conservation area. it is also about 12 km north of Naabi hill gate, surrounded by nothing more than endless plains for as far as the eye can see.

For more information on this location, please see the map below.

How to get there ?By vehicle only, as it is too far to get too by walking - let alone the dangers of entering an area with a high population of predators. It is also too far from the nearest airstrips - Seronera or lake Ndutu, but you can get a connecting vehicle from there - mostly tours and travel ones that would have to be booked beforehand.

Alternatively, you can use a private or rental vehicle from anywhere within or outside the park, with no preference for 4 x 4's.
