Altitude: 1200 m.a.m.s.l.

A large swampy plateau on the eastern end of Tarangire national park. It is one of the major sources of the Tarangire river, soaking up water during the rainy season and slowly releasing it for the rest of the year.

What to do there?Game drives around it, picnics, camping — a good spot for game viewing from a distance with animals to see including a number of birds, buffaloes, elephants and those that prey on them.

For a list of other attractions in the area nearby, please see our attractions page.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year, with the rainy season seeing the swamp greener and more water logged.

Location of Silale Swamp The Silale swamp is located in eastern Tarangire, with the park's border being just a short drive east of it. To its west is the Tarangire river, running parallel to the swamp for almost its entire length.

For more information on this location, please see the map below.

How to get there?By road or air, with a number of airstrips to use inside Tarangire national park, that are reachable from most airports in the country.

Or you could use a vehicle to get there from Minjingu gate — with no preference as to the type, though 4x4's are recommended during the rain and for night game drives.

Park tariffs for a normal self drive safari normally include conservation fees, vehicle entry fees along with camping or accommodation fees — if spending the night.

For more information on park fees and tariffs, please see the TANAPA website.
