A series of pools on one of the Mbalageti river tributaries that are inhabited by a bloat of hippos. Located on the south western end of
Simba Kopjes area of
Serengeti - it serves as a good spot for game drives, with animals to be seen including hippos, reed buck, gazelles and lions.
What do do there?Game drives of it and nearby Simba kopjes, with the potential of spotting predators on the hunt. For a list of other attractions that you could visit in the area, please see the section below the map or the
attractions pageBest time to visit?Any time from December to April every year, when the migrating wildebeest and Zebra are in the area or nearby
lake Ndutu. However, the rainy season does begin in march, making the vegetation greener but at the same time turning some of the clay soil roads here into impassable marshes, to all but good 4x4's.
Location of Simba kopjes hippo poolThis Hippo pool is located a short distance from, and on the left hand side of the road from
Naabi hill to
Seronera. It takes about a 20 minute drive to get there from the gate.
For more information on this location, please see the map below.
How to get there?By vehicle, whether privately owned, rental or tours and travel one - driving in from Naabi hill gate or other
gates of the park. As it is a bit off the main road road, you may need a good 4x4 if visiting during the rainy season.
You could also get here by air, though the nearest airstrips are at
Seronera or
lake Ndutu, and a vehicle would still be needed to get around. But on the good side, it would provide a rare opportunity to see Serengeti and possibly, nearby
Ngorongoro from above.
For more information on park fees and tariffs, please see the
TANAPA website.
