A serene public campsite in the highlands of Marsabit national park, with facilities such as toilets, showers, picnic tables and a good supply of water.

Named after Ahmed, a legendary large-tusked elephant that once lived in the park.

All campers have to bring their own camping and cooking equipment, as well as food.

What to do thereCamping, hiking, game viewing, bird watching.

Best time to visitThe dry seasons of the year, usually July to October.

Location of Ahmed campsiteAhmed campsite is within walking distance of Ahmed gate, on the northern end of Marsabit national park.

It also is in mt Marsabit's highlands, near the edge of its rain forest.

How to get thereBy vehicle, hiking or air, with the nearest airstrip being a few minutes drive away.

There are passenger buses to Marsabit town, about a 560 km drive north of Nairobi.
