A special campsite near the south eastern end of Silale swamps, and in Tarangire national park. As per special campsites, it has no facilities and all campers are required to pre book it prior to arrival, as well as bring their own tents food and equipment.

One if its best features are the large and ancient baobab trees, as well as its proximity to one of the wettest areas of the swamp, making it a good spot to view wildlife as well as get amazing views of the Silale swamps.

What to do there?Spend a night out in the wilderness and a lot closer to the animals, game drives of it and nearby areas, bird watching etc. Animals that you might see here include elephants, buffalo, zebra and those that prey on them.

Best time to visitThe dry season that starts from July to February each year - when the animals have moved back into Tarangire, making game drives more eventful.

Location of Hondo hondo campsiteHondo hondo campsite is located at the heart of Tarangire, and within walking distance of the Silale swamps. It also is about a 5 minute drive east of the Tarangire river.

How to get there?By road or air, with the nearest option for the latter being Kuro airstrip, and the Tarangire airstrip being a bit further up north; However, these are small and mostly serve regional airstrips - with the larger international airports being further out in Arusha or Kilimanjaro.

Other methods include a self drive safari - using a rental or private vehicle, or a tours vehicle. Daily tariffs for the self drive option include conservation fees, vehicle fees and camping fees.
