An overnight camping area that is located along the Machame trekking route
of mount Kilimanjaro
It also is the first camp that is encountered on the route after entering the park through Machame gate
As the Machame route is only for ascent, the camp is exclusively used by those that are headed to the summit, after which the route's descent goes through Mweka hut
, before finally exiting though Mweka gate
The name hut comes from its location, which also used to be the location of an old metallic ranger's hut that was present since the earlier days of the park.
Machame hut is a tents only campsite, as there are no cabins or built structures for accommodation, instead all people intending to use it for the night would be required to bring their own tents.
There are two type of toilets onsite, one of which is the old style long-drop pit latrines and the other is the recently built W.C toilets that use water from one of the nearby streams.
There also is a wooden house at the middle of the camp that serves as the new accommodation for the camp's ranger as well as a registration point for any one entering the campsite. What to do there
