Altitude: 3040 m.a.m.s.l.

Umbwe cave camp is an overnight resting point and also the first campsite that is encountered by hikers on the Umbwe route of mt. Kilimanjaro. It is not a large campsite, mainly due to the relatively small number of hikers that use the Umbwe route. Hikers arriving at the campsite are usually those from Umbwe gate, heading towards Barranco campsite.Umbwe campsite has no built structures apart from those of the toilets, aboout 3 shared pit latrines.

Location of Umbwe cave campsiteThe Umbwe cave camp is located in the southern part of mt. Kilimanjaro and also near Moshi(urban Kilimanjaro). It is also inside the raiforest region of the mountain, a small clearing in the underbrush and amidst tall trees, moss filled rocks and constantly wet soil and vegetation. From here, there is still quite a considerebly long hike uphill before reaching the end of the rain forest and the start of the heather land region.

The campsite's location also puts it on a ridge between the Lonzo and Umbwe rivers (a lot closer to Umbwe).
