The oldest surviving building in Windhoek, built in the late 19th century to early 20th century as headquarters for the German Schutztruppe.

Its use changed over the years, serving as headquarters for the South African armed forces, and a hostel for a nearby high school.

Some of its collections include vehicles, machinery and wagons used around the time of its construction.

The fort is rectangular in shape with a large courtyard at its centre, and four towers at each corner.
