Cp Nel museum of Oudtshoorn 1
A museum showing the history of Oudtshoorn — a town in South Africa known for having the world's largest population of ostrich, and made famous by a boom in demand for ostrich feathers between 1865 and 1870, and again in 1900 to 1914.

It is named after colonel Charles Paul Leonard Nel, who's private collection started the museum.

Housed inside the old Oudtshoorn Boys high school built in 1906 during the second ostrich feather boom — a late Victorian era sandstone building with a prominent clock tower and a large courtyard that is completed by an outer building that used to be the school hall.

Inside are items from Oudtshoorn's past including recreations of a feather dealer's office, an old synagogue, a street scene, a store and the rooms of a typical house.

The school hall holds displays on the town's ostrich feather trade and farming as well as the area's natural history.
