One of South Africa's transport museums — named after the Outeniqua mountains in the area.
It is one of Transnet's museums, housed in an old railways goods shed, with
another in Kimberley.
Inside are over 26 locomotives, from the old steam ones to the more recent diesel electrics, with some carriages and private coaches — some of which were used by famous people such as Queen Elizabeth, then a princess and president Kruger.
There also is a collection of vintage cars, buses, a model train collection, fire engines, photographs as well as cutlery, furniture and other equipment used by the railways in the past.
What to do thereExplore the museum, see some of the country's earliest transport methods and locomotives, or go for a ride in the Outeniqua power van
