Handajega gate

No image
A seldom used entrance point into Serengeti national park, that sits on its south western end, with nothing but rural Mwanza villages and farms nearby.

What to do there?Get your permits checked before entry or exit from the park, or even acquire permits and information. Also game drives of it and nearby areas. For a list of other attraction in the nearby areas, please see our attractions page.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year, though other parts of it may be better visited during the months from December to June, when the wildebeest and Zebra are in Serengeti, but even closer to this gate around May - July

Location of Handajega gateHandajega gate is located on the western end of Serengeti national park, just a few kilometres south east of the more used Ndabaka gate. Nearby are several tented campsites, hotels along with old airstrips.

For more information on this location, please see the map below.

How to get there?By air or by vehicle, though trying to go into the park, then Ndabaka gate would be a better option, as the road to Handajega takes you through rural Mwanza. There is no preference for 4x4's, but they are more convenient - especially in the rainy season.

There are airstrips in the area, though we are not sure as to whether they are still used. Thus air access to this location may require use of other airstrips such as Kirawira B airstrip or even airports in Mwanza and Musoma.

For more information on park fees and tariffs, please see the TANAPA website.
