The larger of two gates on the south eastern end of Tsavo west national park, with the other being Maktau north gate. It has a KWS ranger outpost, toilets and KWS headquarters for the southern sector of the park.

What to do there?Anything to do with park permits, payments, information about the park, or get a ranger to accompany you — though you may have arrange with KWS beforehand.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year, though other parts of the park may be best visited during the dry seasons of July to February every year.

Location of Maktau south gateMaktau south gate is in Tsavo West national park and near its south eastern border, with the small town of Maktau being a walking distance away. Just across the Voi — Taveta road is the Maktau north gate.

How to get there?By air or road, with Maktau airstrip nearby being reachable from most airports in the country.

The are passenger buses that ply the Voi — Taveta route but you may still need a vehicle to get into the park.
