Altitude: 1000 m.a.m.s.l.

An entrance point on the western border of Tarangire national park, about a 40 minute drive from the Babati - Makuyuni highway. It is used mostly by those getting to the park from Babati in the south or Mbulu in the west, with the rest opting for the main gate in the north.

What to do there?Get your permits checked in or out, acquire or pay for them as well as get information about the park itself. The park uses an electronic system, requiring all visitors to pay via debit or credit card as well as scan their permits at entry or exit.

For a list of other places to see in the national park, please see our attractions page.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year not in the rainy season of march to June, as the animals move away from the Tarangire river during this period, and some of the roads may become muddy.

Location of Sangaiwe gateSangaiwe gate is located on the western border of Tarangire national park, a few minutes worth of driving away from the southern end of lake Burugi. It also sits on the northern end of Sangaiwe hills.

Accommodation options in the area include hotels and lodges outside the park and public campsites inside it. For more information on this location, please see the map below.

How to get there?By road or by air, with the latter using a multitude of airstrips inside the park, or others outside such as lake Manyara airstrip.

There are passenger buses that pass through the highway nearby, but that is still far away from the gate, let alone the fact that a vehicle is needed to get into the park.

The easiest method would be to use a private, rental or tours vehicle, with fees required for a self game drive including conservation fees, camping fees along with vehicle permits.

For more information on park fees and tariffs, please see the TANAPA website.
