One of Namibia's smaller national parks, covering an area of about 400 square kilometres — most of which lies on top of the Waterberg plateau.

Its name means 'water mountain' in Afrikaans — for the springs that flow from it.

Or visit the graves of soldiers who died during the battle of Waterberg.

Best time to visitMay to October, or the dry season.

Location of Waterberg Plateau national parkIt sits at the heart of Namibia — just a few hours north of Windhoek by road.

It also is within the Kalahari basin, just a few kilometers from the north western end of the Kalahari desert.

How to get thereBy air, train or road, though the nearest train station and airport are less than an hour's drive away in Otjiwarongo.
