Mwanihana peak

The second highest peak of the Udzungwa mountains national park, located near its eastern border; However, unlike its sibling Luhombero, it sits atop a rock formation, with the approach being done from the less steeper northern side, and a cliff to its south.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year not in the rainy season of March to June.

Location of Mwanihana peakMwanihana peak is located near the eastern border of Udzungwa mountains national park, and in central Tanzania, overlooking some of the more frequented areas such as the Sanje waterfalls, the park headquarters at Mangula, the Kilombero valley and Selous game reserve beyond it.

How to get there?By hiking from the outer edges of the park, this can be from the west, south or the closest - east. Getting to the park can be done by air, train, private vehicle or bus.

There TAZARA railway passes through the nearby town of Mangula, with a train from Dar es Salaam to Zambia once a week. The same train also goes through the northern parts of Selous game reserve, a more scenic and convenient method of getting to the to this peak.

Alternatively, you could use a private or a rental vehicle, or a passenger bus to get there from most of the regions in the country; However, you may have to get a connecting one from Morogoro or Mikumi - depending on where you are from.

There are a multitude of airstrips in the area, that could also be used, the nearest being Kilombero airstrip, though you still would need vehicular transport to get to the park.
