The Machame trekking route of Kilimanjaro is one of the 8 routes for climbing the mountain as well as one that both starts and ends in its southern foothills. All of the campsites and resting points used on this route do not have any built accomodation, thus requiring every climber using this route to have their own tent. It also is one of the tougher routes, earning itself the nick name "whisky route", as there is nothing sweet or enjoyable about it to novice climbers, although experienced ones may find it easier.
