Altitude: 600 m.a.m.s.l.

One of the larger waterfalls in tanzania, located a short distance from the eastern border of Udzungwa mountains national park. It serves as an easily reached hiking destination for tourists, secluded from the rest of the world by the dense rain forest.

What to do there?Hike to the falls - whether to enjoy the views, being in nature or for a swim at the plunge pool. The park has a lot more hiking destinations, animals to see and campsites - for those interested in spending the night.

For a list of other attractions in the park, see the attractions page.

Best time to visit?Any time of the year not in the rainy season of march to June.

Location of Sanje waterfallSanje falls are located on the eastern most slopes of Udzungwa mountains, and inside the park. They also are about a few hours hike uphill from the Sanje ranger post.

For more information on its location, please see the map below.

How to get there?By air, train or vehicle, with the first using any of a multitude of airstrips nearby, followed by a prearranged transport for the rest of the way.

There is a train that passes though here from Dar es Salaam, heading to Kapiri Mposhi, about once a week. The same train also passes through the northern edges of Selous game reserve as well as rural Tanzania - a more scenic option.

There are larger passenger buses that go through the small town of Mikumi, about 50 km north of here from most regions of the country, though you would have to take a smaller minibus from there to the town nearest to the falls.

For more information on park fees and tariffs, please see the TANAPA website.
