Irma Stern museum

A museum in Cape Town showing the works of Irma Stern — a famous South African artist known for her portraits and paintings of people, some of which have recently been sold for a hefty price.

It is housed inside a former residence of hers — built in the 1830's as a single storey house but fitted with a second one in the 1880's.

Here she lived from its acquisition in 1927 until her death in 1966, with some of the art being done here and the rest in different parts of Africa.

Today, the ground floor holds Irma Stern's original furniture and art — mostly oil paintings, with a few sculptures and ceramics, while the top floor is a gallery for temporary exhibits and local art for sale.

Outside is a small but beautiful garden with some sculptures and a side building for offices.
