An extremely deep and narrow gorge that cuts through the Olgol mountains, near the northern border of the Ngorongoro conservation area. It serves as a primary nesting site for the Ruppell’s Griffon vultures as well as a hiking destination and an attraction for tourists.

It is about 8 km long from end to end and the river bed is almost flat - with gentle slopes but the walls are vertical in most places, rising as far as a kilometre from the river bed. This makes it a one of a kind gorge in the entire rift valley escarpment.
