The largest of South Africa's administrative provinces — an arid and semi arid area, that is also home to the Augrabies waterfalls, Kgalagadi transfrontier park and the |Ai |Ais Richtersveld transfrontier park.

Location of Northern Cape provinceIt sits on the north western end of the country — bordered by the Atlantic ocean to the west, and Namibia and Botswana to the north.

The southern ends of both the Kalahari and Namib deserts run through it, as well as the orange river.

The latter also forms part of its north western border
